Hello again! This is Vanessa, from Human Resource Department.

Now, we would like to share a dialogue between our System Development team. I’ll be interviewing Yuta (our System Manager) and with his members Raeanne, Eric and Jeannie.

I’m really excited for this casual interview to get to know more our hardworking developers. ✨✨

Describe yourself briefly:

Yuta: 

 

• I’m Yuta Inoue, the system manager of Commude Inc. ??‍???‍?
  My hobby is to join Kendo (Japanese Martial Arts) practice sessions during weekends. I like to eat a lot, but currently I’m on diet.

 

Raeanne: 

 

• I’m Raeanne, a PHP developer in Commude PH. It will be almost two years since I’ve started working here. I’ve always wanted to have a job related to computers. I was initially going to take Computer Engineering but the math part scared me (I don’t like math) so I took up IT instead.

 

Eric:

 

• I’m John Eric Nicdao. I’m a junior backend developer for almost two years now. During my high school years, I understood some concepts of programming and web development and it feels good to know something that others sees as difficult to understand.

 

Jeannie: 

 

• Hello! I’m Jeannie (pronounced as genie) , a 20-something socially awkward person. I’m a night owl and mostly on twitter. ?
• I am not a morning person, although I always start my day with a cup of tea. It’s what fuels my mornings.

What made you decide to join Commude PH? and what was your first impression? 

Yuta: 

 

• It was Rika san (College senpai) that invited me to Commude PH and my first impression was that everyone in focused in their work. I was a new grad, so everyone in the office seemed stoic and serious.
  I decided to join Commude PH since I can speak Japanese and use that for work.

 

Raeanne: 

 

• What made me decide to work here was the fact that it’s a start-up Japanese company and given that fact, I expected everyone to be hardworking and workaholic so I was kind of scared at that time. Looking back from when I started working here, I think I’ve improved a lot with my development skills and that’s something to give credit to my managers and the rest of the team. I have been assigned to various projects and I make sure that I gain new knowledge and skills from each.

 

Eric:

 

• I decided to join Commude Ph since it has a solid foundation on the latest technologies available for developers. It has the best practices for development lifecycle. My first impression on the work culture of Commude Ph is that the people is very work-centric. They’re very serious and professional on what they do.

 

Jeannie: 

 

• Commude was actually my top choice. My interview went along well and I love how they look approachable. Ever since I started working, everyone is welcoming and easy to work with.

Tell us about your career so far. And few of your personal goals

Yuta: 

 

• I’m working as a system team’s technical manager. Sometimes as a bridge director. I usually check the team’s code to see if there are any more improvements that can be done.
• I don’t know yet hahahaha. Personally, I just want to have an easy life.

 

Raeanne: 

 

• In the future, alongside catching up with new technologies with software development, I would like to try to work on servers.

 

Eric:

 

• So far, I think that my career is still growing. Since everyday there’s a new technology that Commude Ph is trying and digging in-depth.
• I’d like to be a mid-level developer for now. Career wise speaking. No personal plans yet.

 

Jeannie: 

 

• I’ve been a Web System Developer for more than 3 years now. This is my second job and so far, it’s been great.
• I wanted to focus on my personal growth mentally. Career-wise, I would love to start learning mobile development again.

 

Would you share about how your team works?

Yuta:

 

• Usually, the team gives me their PR (pull request) for the code review on certain tasks/features. I give them feedbacks if there are any codes that can be fixed.
• Everyone tries their best to deliver their work with best quality. I usually give feedback on source code formatting and not much on the logic side. As for the improvements, for me personally hopefully everyone can have a little bit of Japanese knowledge hahahaah.Sometimes its easier to know the error messages in Japanese.

Raeanne: 

 

• Communication is the key. That is true to all teams and the system team makes sure that we do that daily. We share our tasks in progress and any issues that we encounter if there are any. We tend to exchange ideas on how to make things work or the best way to implement ideas and features. I admire how each member offer help to other members even the member that was asked isn’t involved in that particular project.

 

Eric:

 

• Yes. Everyone is very cooperative towards each other. Sharing the knowledge base to further enhance the skills of everyone.
• I admire the willingness to learn of everyone.

 

Jeannie:

 

• Our System team typically works by task handed by Yuta san. Task can be done in 1 -2 days depending on the scope. We have a daily meeting to inform Yuta san of our daily task and what area we are struggling with.
• Honestly, our team is great because of solid communications and also being attentive to others that are having a hard time on a certain task.

Insights about current work setup 

Yuta:

 

• For the pros, there’s no need to spend money on transportation and you can have your personal space.For the cons, I think the team cannot quickly ask me any questions or easily show their screen to show the problem.

 

Raeanne: 

 

• The pandemic has been a major problem for all of us but if there’s one good thing we took out from it, it’s probably the implementation of work from home setup. Working from home has helped me save time from a sickening 2 hours of commute and traffic, it helps on saving more money.  I also find myself more productive and flexible and thus being able to finish tasks as much and as soon as possible. I think that’s because the amount of thinking I spend on commute on the day is being spent on doing work tasks instead. It all comes down actually to stress reduction. But of course, there are still cons of the said setup. It can be lonely sometimes and it’s harder to establish relationships with my colleagues.

 

Eric:

 

• Pros: Money-wise speaking, it’s cheaper to work from home.
  Cons: Less motivation

Jeannie:

 

• Pros:
  • Having to wake up without worrying of the traffic and commuting
  • More time before work to exercise, eat breakfast and such

  Cons:

  • Since most of us are in our homes, we can be easily distracted by noise or people.

   

I’m actually…

Yuta: 

 

• I’m actually a shy person and don’t talk too much when I’m not drunk.
• I don’t spend too much things, and most of them are food. I spend my holidays in the house sleeping around

 

Raeanne: 

 

• I actually like spending time alone. I think that’s being frowned upon by a lot of people but I find solace in that.  I like long walks, window shopping (lol), watching movies/series, reading, listening to music alone. I also like discovering underrated gems, it can be in any form – songs, movies, people etc.. And then keeping it to myself because I’m selfish like that haha. No, sometimes I share it to people I know who will enjoy them.  I’m a big fan of karaoke, I don’t sing well but I enjoy doing it with my friends.
• I’m not really a grand spender and I’m not materialistic but I buy my favorite artists’ albums and merchandise when there are releases from them. But other than that, I spend my money on bills and food. Before the pandemic, my family spend the holidays in province but now we just spend it at home.

 

Eric:

 

• My interest and passion is seeking for inner peace or peace of mind.
• Gimmicks and social drinking. Every weekends; Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays.

 

Jeannie: 

 

• I’m actually  a book nerd, kpop fan, average manga and anime enjoyer and a Swiftie. I do make journals on my free days. Introverted thingz.
• I mostly spent my money on albums, stickers or books. I have a journal right now that’s great on my mental health.. On holidays, If my friends invited me out, I’ll go wherever but most of the time, i’m alone in my room.

Please tell us what kind of candidates who are suitable for Commude PH System Team.

Yuta: 

 

• Developers who want to code with php or any backend side development, are all welcome!

 

Raeanne: 

 

• In my opinion, candidates who are self-motivated and are willing to go above and beyond on any project, and to learn valuable skills on their own time are great fit for the company.

 

Eric:

 

• Determined and willing to learn by himself or herself.

 

Jeannie: 

 

• A candidate should have great critical thinking skills and good time management since multiple projects are handled all at once. Never afraid to make mistakes and ask for help because learning never stops.

To end up this blog, I’ve recently understood that our dedication and enthusiasm follow us no matter what situation we’re into. I have been in Commude Philippines, Inc. for 2 years now and I witnessed people grow, survived, adapt and improved! Isn’t it incredible? Of course, we’ve had our share of heartbreaks along the way, but they’ve only strengthened us and given us the confidence to move forward to set our objectives and make them a reality.
